ABOUT MATTHEW

Matthew is a clinical psychologist with over 20 years’ experience. Since completing his Master of Psychology (Clinical) and Ph.D. at Flinders University of South Australia in 2003, he has worked across public adult mental health, community health and addiction services. He is also an experienced teacher and supervisor, having managed both the Centre for Treatment of Anxiety and Depression from 2009-2016 (a major training clinic for University of Adelaide) and the University of South Australia Psychology Clinic (2017-current). He has been program director for the Master of Psychology (Clinical) program at UniSA where he continues to teach, research and supervise. He has supervised over 100 provisional psychologists. His research focuses on how to improve the effectiveness of psychological therapy in routine practice and frequently involves surveying both psychotherapists and consumers, and developing questionnaires that better track client progress. Academic highlights include conducting the first randomised controlled trial of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in Australia, co-developing the Valuing Questionnaire, benchmarking student clinic outcomes and co-authoring the Cambridge Guide to Schema Therapy. Matthew is returning to private practice in May 2024 and is available for adult therapy appointments, and private supervision.
